On Trump's 2024 candidacy
Here we goooo… eek
The former president announced his candidacy for President in 2024. What do you think about that? I have lots of thoughts, but here’s just a few.
Trump’s mouth does the rest of himself no favors (or maybe it’s his social media posts?). I wonder what would happen if he would genuinely and contritely apologize for his approach and bombastic, all-over-the-place rants and pledge to simply be about his policies? That’s a sincere question. I don’t see it happening, but hey, what if?
Trump never had a fair shot from Day 1 of leading without resistance and interference. The Dems protested and claimed #NotMyPresident all over social media in 2016. They claimed the election was stolen (how quickly we forget that they were the first Trump election deniers.) Trump was impeached twice, pursued, investigated, harassed and distracted from the first day in office until his last. It’s no wonder he has a chip on his shoulder. I’d like to see Trump zero in on his fiscal policies, international trade, secure the border, strengthen the economy (again) and lead the U.S. to energy independence (again).
On the other hand, America is tired. I wonder if we could endure another Trump presidency if he continues his course of outrageous name-calling, which would lead to (or may be caused by) more of the left’s shrill, vindictive treatment of him. We need a unifier.
We also need someone with backbone. Trump definitely has that. So does Ron DeSantis. He has proven it through his governance of Florida. One success of Trump was exposing the deep corruption and malfeasance of lifetime politicians and the agencies (and countries) that finance them as well as the partisanship of the press. It takes a strong backbone to endure the DC morass.
I would have a hard time supporting Trump without some behavioral changes. I usually just shook my head in frustration at his stupid tweets. His policies, on the other hand, were indisputably good for the country. Few people believe we are better off under Biden. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people post, “I miss the mean tweets.”
A Trump-DeSantis ticket would be hard to not support. I would also love to see Tulsi Gabbard show up someplace - either as VP of Trump or DeSantis or a member of either’s cabinet.
Did you know…
The animated series The Simpsons predicted Trump would run in 2024… back in 2015?
Whoever ultimately secures the Republican nomination will probably get my vote. I’m not a Republican. Though I love politics, I am disgusted with both parties, though not equally and for different reasons. However, there is no way at present that I could ever support a Democrat candidate without major national party platform overhaul.

I wish I could edit my comments, I get on a roll and leave a word out or two. My English teacher mother would not be proud!
I think Trump is in trouble. The left has been on witch hunts for him for 6 years. They have built their side and themselves up into a lather over taking Trump down. Now the media, DOJ, FBI, and most other major entities in this country are on their side. And that side isn’t just the liberal left it’s getting closer to the communist left at this point. We should watch what’s happening in New York with their AG and with the newest “special counsel” going after him. They can’t suddenly say never mind it’s all a farce. After over 6 years of building to this …. And never have they had to say oops we messed up or that really wasn’t true after all. They can’t let the chance of a system disrupter like Trump being elected again. Just my opinion.
But that all being said, I would vote for him or DeSantis if they get the nomination. I think enough people have been turned off by Trump for the reasons you mentioned that DeSantis will be the stronger option.
