Our hike up McAfee Knob
We didn't plan to go hiking today. it was a whim because Carolyn wanted to get out of the house. We just "up and left." The kids both had places to be. Our supplies were two blue water bottles and a hearty dose of optimism.
Here are a few things that happened on our hike to McAfee Knob:
We averaged .2 miles in the first 43 minutes. No, scratch that. We averaged .2 miles every 43 minutes after the first two minutes. But most of that was spent trying to figure out how to enable location services on my iPhone so we could use my Runkeeper aps. But we most assuredly were not running.
At half a mile, we were averaging 33 minutes per mile after the first 20 minutes. We were rolling. Downhill that is. Help!
It's not funny that I have LTE service on the Appalachian Trail and not in Blacksburg.
One of fhe few people we saw today said to Carolyn, "Nice Chacos," and kept walking. She looked smugly at me (I'm not a Chaco cult member).
At one point, she said, "Are you on your phone?" accusatorily. I said, "I'm on Instagram." She told me to quit looking at other people's crap on Instagram. I said I wasn't. "I'm posting our crap on Instagram."
On the way down, she said, "What would you do if you saw a bear." I said that I would take a picture of it and post it on Instagram.
We had a great day, but we dosed up on Ibuprofen when we got home. We are both walking like we got bucked off a mechanical bull.
